Watford's town grew rapidly when it was linked to the Grand Union Canal (1798) and the railway (1837).

You can find properties from many different periods here (the High Street has many brick fronts from the 18th century) although much of the housing dates from the 20th century onwards, for example the developments in Callowland (North Watford) and West Watford, many of which date from the first two decades of the 20th century and consist largely of terraces and semi-detached homes.

The council built municipal housing as well, particularly after the 1st World War, when the Harebreaks estate was developed. The Meriden Estate was built in the 1960s and mainly consists of 2 purpose-built tower blocks.

Any property older than 70years/that has had the original fabric of the structure altered/or has a unique feature like a thatched roof is best catered for by a building survey.

The HomeBuyer Report comes in a standard format and anything that falls outside of that, such as an older property where the original build materials have decayed, won’t be adequately addressed and will require the bespoke nature of reporting that comes with a Building Survey.
