Folkestone is a coastal town on the English Channel in Kent. It is situated 20 miles south of Canterbury, 18 miles southeast of Ashford and 60 miles southwest of Margate. The town is on the southern edge of the North Downs in a valley between two cliffs. It is thought that the town has been occupied since the Mesolithic era.

Landmarks in the town include its harbour, that has greatly diminished in use since the opening of the Channel Tunnel. The harbour is now famous for the ‘Harbour Arm’ that has cafes, pubs and live music. The cliffs around the beach are also a notable sight within the town with the Martello Tower standing on them. There are a couple of famous landmarks outside the town: The Battle of Britain Memorial and the Kent Battle of Britain museum. The latter is the oldest Battle of Britain museum in the United Kingdom.
